Transferring credits in Wyoming

The Wyoming Community College Commission student handbook states that qualified high school students take these college classes for free and that Wyoming law bars charging the student or parent/guardian for textbooks, materials, student services or any other fees for APPROVED dual and concurrent enrollment courses. Costs are borne by the school district and the college under their agreement. The 'approved' qualifier is the scope limit: a course the district has not approved is not covered, and families are told to contact the Commission if they are billed.

Who can enroll. Wyoming high school students at all seven community colleges and the University of Wyoming. 9th and 10th graders may be eligible with parent and high school official permission plus course prerequisites; 11th and 12th graders need parent permission and must meet course prerequisites. The state's goal is at least 12 college credits per student, generally starting junior year. Concurrent enrollment is taught at the high school by a college-approved high school teacher; dual enrollment is taught by college instructors on campus, at an outreach center, or by distance learning (UW offers dual enrollment only).
