Transferring credits in Wisconsin

If the course is taken for HIGH SCHOOL credit (whether or not also for college credit) and the district offers no comparable course, the pupil pays nothing: the school board/private school governing body pays 75% of the actual tuition, the state reimburses 25%, and the school is also responsible for books and other necessary materials. If the pupil takes the course for POSTSECONDARY CREDIT ONLY, the pupil is responsible for 25% of the actual tuition cost (school 25%, state 50%), and the school must waive the pupil's share if DPI determines it would be an undue financial burden. Tuition itself is capped at 1/3 of the UW resident undergraduate per-credit rate (1/2 at a two-year UW campus). Families pay transportation.

Who can enroll. Public, charter (including 2r/2x independent charter) and private high school pupils in grades 9-12 in Wisconsin, for fall, spring or summer terms, with a total limit of 18 college credits. The pupil must apply to the institution the previous semester and notify the school board by March 1 (fall) or October 1 (spring). Eligible institutions are UW System institutions, tribally controlled colleges, and private nonprofit colleges located in Wisconsin — technical colleges are NOT eligible under ECCP; pupils who have completed 10th grade use the separate Start College Now program (Wis. Stat. § 38.12(14)) for Wisconsin Technical College System courses.
