Transferring credits in Rhode Island

For a student enrolled in a Rhode Island PUBLIC high school, part-time dual and concurrent enrollment is $0: the PrepareRI Dual Enrollment Fund reimburses URI, RIC and CCRI for per-credit tuition and fees, so neither the family nor the district pays tuition, application or fees. Books and course materials are covered by the student's school or district when the course is taken for high school credit. Two scope limits: (1) full-time enrollment via CCRI's Running Start is paid by the student's district out of its student allocation (capped at 50% of the core instructional per-pupil amount), and RIDE's page states home-schooled, private-school and out-of-state students are responsible for tuition and fees for that program; (2) the fund covers only the three public institutions — partnerships with private colleges are not covered.

Who can enroll. Open to students enrolled in a Rhode Island public high school; each public institution sets its own minimum criteria, and URI and RIC both list a recommended cumulative high school GPA of at least 3.0 plus junior or senior standing, with exceptions allowed on a counselor/administrator/teacher recommendation. CCRI's part-time High School Enrichment program allows up to two courses (8 credits) per semester with a counselor recommendation; CCRI's full-time Running Start requires a 2.7 GPA (B average) and PSAT/SAT scores above 410 Reading/Writing and 411 Math. Covered institutions are CCRI, Rhode Island College and the University of Rhode Island only.
