Transferring credits in Mississippi

Mississippi has NO statewide guarantee that dual enrollment is free. For the general dual enrollment program the statute expressly permits tuition and costs to be paid by the college, the local school district, the parents/legal guardians, or by grants — so families can legally be billed, and each community college sets its own discounted per-hour or per-course rate. Only under the separate Mississippi Works Dual Enrollment-Dual Credit Option Program does the statute say tuition and costs shall not be charged to the student or parents. A separate state Dual Enrollment/Dual Credit (DEDC) Scholarship exists but its award rate was not verified on this page, so no dollar figure is asserted.

Who can enroll. The statute leaves admission standards to the institutions: students may enroll in community/junior college dual enrollment courses if they meet that institution's stated dual enrollment admission requirements. The Mississippi Community College Board's statewide criteria (published separately at mccb.edu, not on this page) are juniors/seniors with a minimum 3.0 GPA for academic dual enrollment and sophomores or above with at least a 2.0 GPA for CTE dual credit, with a 2.0 college GPA required to continue.
