Transferring credits in Louisiana

Louisiana has no single verifiable statewide per-credit price a dual enrollment student pays; tuition is set institution by institution and is offset by a patchwork of local, Course Choice and state funds. The one firm, state-published figure is the TOPS Tech Early Start Award, administered by LOSFA, which pays up to $600 per academic year toward concurrent enrollment (up to six credit hours per semester) for eligible 11th and 12th graders pursuing an industry-based certification in a high-demand occupation. Amounts above that award, and academic (non-CTE) dual enrollment, are billed by the college unless the school system or a state appropriation covers them; the Board of Regents' Dual Enrollment Task Force recommended — but the state has not been shown to guarantee — four tuition-free and fee-free courses for every student.

Who can enroll. TOPS Tech Early Start: 11th or 12th grade student attending a Louisiana PUBLIC high school, U.S. citizen/permanent resident and Louisiana resident, cumulative GPA of at least 2.00 on a 4.00 scale on all courses attempted, concurrently enrolled at a Louisiana public or nonpublic college or approved training provider in an eligible certification program in a designated demand occupation. General dual enrollment eligibility is set by each awarding institution's admission standards (commonly juniors/seniors with roughly a 2.5 GPA plus test-score or placement criteria); home-study students are generally not eligible for the state-subsidized rate.
