Transferring credits in Kansas

Under Excel in CTE (SB 155), the State of Kansas pays the tuition for approved technical education courses taken by Kansas high school students at Kansas community and technical colleges, so tuition is $0 to the family. Tuition only: the Kansas Board of Regents page states technical programs may still charge fees for textbooks, tools and personal protective equipment, and those fees are the student's responsibility. This waiver does NOT extend to general-education / academic concurrent enrollment courses (governed separately by the Kansas Challenge to Secondary School Students Act), where the college's own rate applies unless the local district chooses to pay.

Who can enroll. Kansas high school students enrolled in technical education courses that are part of a technical program approved by the Kansas Board of Regents and offered by a Kansas technical college, community college, or the state institute of technology. All approved technical courses qualify for state tuition reimbursement; academic/general-education concurrent enrollment courses do not. Enrollment is arranged through the student's high school.
