Transferring credits in Arkansas

Under Arkansas Division of Higher Education policy the high school student and the parent/guardian are not responsible for tuition, fees, OR materials for a concurrent credit course - so the family cost is $0, including books/materials. The college or university still sets a tuition and fee rate, but it must be paid by the ACCESS to Acceleration Scholarship Program, the school district, a college/university scholarship, a grant, a private foundation, or another agreed source under a signed agreement. The negotiated per-credit amount is capped between 0.5% and 2.5% of the state per-pupil foundation funding amount and may not exceed the institution's standard tuition and fee structure.

Who can enroll. Public high school students who have successfully completed the eighth grade (i.e. grades 9-12) and are admitted to the college or university; each institution sets its own concurrent admission requirements and all students must be assessed for placement into credit-bearing courses (objective exam, prior coursework/career training, or other validated measures). Students must be recommended by their high school principal or designee. Scope: Arkansas state-supported (public) two-year and four-year institutions partnering with public school districts or open-enrollment public charter schools; private-school and homeschool students are not the subject of the no-cost guarantee in this policy.
