Transferring credits in Alabama

Alabama does NOT make dual enrollment free by default: the student is responsible for tuition, fees, textbooks, materials and supplies unless a Dual Enrollment Scholarship or other funding covers them. The state scholarship funds are appropriated annually by the Alabama Legislature and administered by the ACCS Chancellor, so coverage is not guaranteed and varies by college, program and year. No statewide per-credit dollar figure is published on this ALSDE page, so the cost fields are left null rather than guessed; each ACCS college publishes its own tuition/fee schedule.

Who can enroll. Rising 10th, 11th or 12th graders with a minimum cumulative unweighted high school GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale, plus written approval from a secondary school official; students must also meet ACCS general admission requirements and any course prerequisites/placement. Open to public, private, parochial, church/religious and homeschool/private-tutor students. The policy covers courses taken through Alabama Community College System (ACCS) two-year institutions only - it does not govern dual enrollment at Alabama's public four-year universities.
