Dual enrollment in Connecticut
College credit earned while still in high school. It is the single largest lever on a college bill, and what it costs your family depends almost entirely on which state you are in.
There is no broad state subsidy, so dual-enrolment credits are billed at the college’s own rate. That is still far below university tuition, and it is the case where comparing colleges matters most.
CSCU Dual/Concurrent Enrollment (Board of Regents Policy 2.08); College and Career Pathways (CCP)
$50 per credit
This is a CEILING, not a set price: Board of Regents policy (adopted June 26, 2025) says the cost of concurrent credit courses will not exceed $50.00 per credit, and individual CSCU institutions may charge less. Courses taken through the federally Perkins V-funded College and Career Pathways (CCP) program at CT State are free to students and are explicitly excluded from the pricing model. Institutions may waive fees for students on Federal Free and Reduced Lunch and for students at Title I high schools. The policy does not address textbooks or materials, and the $50 cap language is written for concurrent (high-school-taught) courses rather than for dual enrollment courses taken on a college campus.
Who can enroll. Each CSCU institution sets and publishes its own admission requirements, which must include multiple entry pathways such as GPA thresholds, course prerequisites and/or test scores; dual/concurrent students are admitted as non-degree-seeking students and may not be subject to extra admission requirements beyond the policy. Early College programs may start as early as 9th grade and Middle College as early as 11th grade. Scope: institutions in the Connecticut State Colleges and Universities system (CT State Community College, the four Connecticut State Universities, Charter Oak State College) - it does NOT govern UConn Early College Experience or private colleges, which price separately.
