Dual enrollment in Illinois
College credit earned while still in high school. It is the single largest lever on a college bill, and what it costs your family depends almost entirely on which state you are in.
There is no broad state subsidy, so dual-enrolment credits are billed at the college’s own rate. That is still far below university tuition, and it is the case where comparing colleges matters most.

Illinois has NO statewide dual credit tuition rate, waiver, or state scholarship that makes dual credit uniformly free. What a family pays is set in the local partnership agreement between the school district and the community college district, which must itemize all fees and costs the college will assess and keep them reasonable and access-promoting. In practice many Illinois community colleges waive or deeply discount tuition for dual credit taught at the high school (and the district often absorbs it), while other agreements pass in-district tuition, fees, and books to the family - so the real cost ranges from $0 to full in-district tuition depending on the district pair. No verified statewide dollar figure exists, so cost fields are null.
Who can enroll. No statewide GPA or grade-level rule. Academic criteria for enrolling in dual credit are established in each district-college partnership agreement and must be evidence-based using multiple appropriate measures of readiness; a student who does not meet the community college's academic eligibility requirements may still take a dual credit course taught at the high school for high school credit only. The Act governs Illinois public school districts partnering with Illinois community college districts (and, after negotiation, alternative postsecondary institutions); students with disabilities who meet entry criteria must be given access with their IEP or Section 504 accommodations.
